Singing at Church
The Sunday School children sang during worship this morning. Kyle told us, "Sometimes, I don't like singing on the stage because the people that are singing -- they sing loud."

Laughing, Laughing, Laughing
On Thursday, I took Kyle with me to a brunch I had with some ladies at the boys' school. Normally, it's a prayer group. I bring toys for Kyle, and he plays somewhat quietly while we pray for our school, our teachers and our children. This week, however, we were just talking and eating. After we got home, Kyle said, "You were laughing, laughing, laughing. I so love your laughing!"

Two Legs
Kyle had a revelation at dinner today and exclaimed, "So many people have two legs! See (pointing to his legs) -- one, two!"

Funny Quotes
Elbert and I were watching part of the Michigan game with Kyle today. He saw the players running and exclaimed, "They run fast -- just like me!"
Nathan wanted to try to pick me up today. He did it successfully and was so happy. Then, he went over to his Grandma and tried to pick her up. He wasn't meaning to offend when he told her, "You must weight a little more than my mom."

Snippet of Prayer
Elbert took Nathan to see a movie this afternoon. While they were gone, I had a particularly difficult time with the youngest three because they were all very overtired. At one point, two of them were crying at the same time. Nathan knew about this and prayed before bed, "Thank you for such a cool Mom that she can handle the rest of my brothers alone."

Singing About Peas
Apparently, "I've got peace like a river" sounds like "I've got peas by the river" to a 3 year old. Kyle has been heartily singing about the vegetable all morning.

Earrings
Kyle was playing with my earrings this morning. I told him that earrings are for girls.
Evan piped up and said, "Yeah, you weren't born with holes in your ears."
I shocked Evan by explaining that I wasn't born with holes in my ears.
This was big news to him. "You weren't?!?"
I explained in true "boy language" that a little gun shot an earring through my ears. I told him that it hurt a lot at first, but after a little while, I couldn't feel it anymore.
Evan emphatically replied, "I do NOT want to be a woman!"

Kissing
The boys were looking over my shoulder while I was watching a video of a flashmob proposal. At the end, the man and woman kissed.
Nathan covered his eyes and said, "I hope that never has to happen to me!"
Andrew responded, "You only have to do it once, you know!"

Coffee In You
Kyle woke up at 6:30am this morning, which is normal. He came into our room with a book in his hand and asked Elbert to read it to him.
Elbert told Kyle, "I can't. My eyes aren't open yet."
Kyle responded, "We have to get some coffee in you so that you can open your eyes!"

Prayer for Heaven
After praying for Kyle tonight, he looked at me and asked, "You prayed for me to go to heaven?"
I said, "Yes."
"Thanks!" He responded enthusiastically.
Such sweet times with my growing boy!

Kyle's Prayer
Kyle knew that Nathan threw up last night. This morning, I asked him if he would like to pray for Nathan.
He prayed, "Thank you for Nathan for his stomach to go away. Amen."
Such sweet prayers from a 2 year old heart.

Time for Dinner, Tummy
After he knew that it was almost time for dinner, Kyle lifted his shirt, looked down at his bare stomach and said, "It's time for dinner, tummy. I will feed you."

The Reading Mother
The Reading Mother
by Strickland Gillilan (1869–1954)
I had a mother who read to me
Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea.
Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth;
“Blackbirds” stowed in the hold beneath.
I had a Mother who read me lays
Of ancient and gallant and golden days;
Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,
Which every boy has a right to know.
I had a Mother who read me tales
Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,
True to his trust till his tragic death,
Faithfulness lent with his final breath.
I had a Mother who read me the things
That wholesome life to the boy heart brings-
Stories that stir with an upward touch.
Oh, that each mother of boys were such!
You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be –
I had a Mother who read to me.

Blubber
While Evan was getting ready for school, he told me, "I wish I had blubber like a seal. Then, I wouldn't have to wear clothes!"

Uncle Kyle
We have been talking a lot around here about what would make Kyle an uncle. He knows that when his brothers have kids, he will be "Uncle Kyle".
Tonight, while getting ready for his bath, he looked at me (out of the blue) and said, "I don't want to be 'Uncle Kyle'. I want to be a monkey."

Wake Up
To get rid of a horrible headache this afternoon, I took a nap. When Evan came to wake me up, I told him I wanted to lay down a little longer to wake up my eyes. He said, "After you wake up your eyes, you need to wake up your hands and feet, too." I love the wisdom of a 5 year old!

Kyle's Prayer
Kyle's prayer this morning:
Dear Lord, thank you for my breakfast. Please help me not to get sick when I eat my breakfast and not to cry when my milk falls down. Amen.
